The Rainbow Mountain and 7 Lakes in Ausangate Trek features some spectacular views and sights. Trek to the Rainbow Mountain and be amazed by the natural colors of the sandstone mountains. Later trek further to the Red Valley. Camp overnight under the stars. Visit seven colorful lakes, most of green and blue surrounded by glaciers and high mountain peaks. To finish take a soak at the hot springs where you can relax surrounded by snow capped peaks.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Pacchanta – Upis

Departure 04:00 – 05:00 AM from Cusco to Pacchanta

Breakfast in Pacchanta (4300 m above sea level)

Start of the hike towards Upis

  • Distance: 6 – 7 km
  • Duration: 3 to 4 hours

Gentle walk ideal for acclimatization:

First contact with Ausangate with open and tranquil landscapes

Arrival at Upis (~4435 m above sea level)

Night 1 – Upis

Day 2: Upis – Arapa Pass – Anantapata

  • Duration: 6 to 7 hours

  • Arapa Pass (4750 m above sea level)
  • High Andean lagoons
  • Increasingly colorful landscapes

Night 2 – Anantapata

Day 3: Anantapata – Mountain of Colors – Ausangate Lagoon

Night 4 – Sorapata

Day 5: Sorapata – Q'ampa Pass – 7 Lagoons – Pacchanta – Cusco
