The Rainbow Mountain and 7 Lakes in Ausangate Trek features some spectacular views and sights. Trek to the Rainbow Mountain and be amazed by the natural colors of the sandstone mountains. Later trek further to the Red Valley. Camp overnight under the stars. Visit seven colorful lakes, most of green and blue surrounded by glaciers and high mountain peaks. To finish take a soak at the hot springs where you can relax surrounded by snow capped peaks.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Pacchanta – 7 Lakes – Surapata

We'll pick you up from your hotel very early. While the city is still asleep, we'll begin our adventure towards Pacchanta.

Breakfast with a view of the Ausangate mountain

Start of the hike to the Seven Lakes

  • Distance: 14-16 km
  • Duration: 5-6 hours

We'll hike at a leisurely pace, exploring intensely colored lakes, surrounded by alpacas and unique landscapes.

Lunch en route

Arrival at Surapata (4590 m)

  • Setting up camp
  • Hot dinner

Night 1 – Surapata

  • Rest under a sky full of stars
Day 2: Surapata – Ausangate Pass – Ausangate Lakes

We woke up early.

Hot breakfast.

Start of the hike to Ausangate Pass.

  • Distance: 12–14 km
  • Duration: 6–7 hours

We ascend to Ausangate Pass (4,870 m), one of the most impressive points of the trek.

Lunch en route.

Descent to the lagoon and camp overlooking Ausangate Lagoon.

Dinner and rest.

Night 2 – Ausangate Lagoon

Day 3: Ausangate Lake – Arapa Pass – Anantapata

Start of the hike to Arapa Pass

  • Distance: 15-16 km
  • Duration: 6-7 hours

During the hike, the landscape transforms completely, revealing reddish mountains and spectacular views.

Arrival at Anantapata (approximately 4730 m)

Night 3 – Anantapata

Day 4: Anantapata – Rainbow Mountain – Red Valley – Cusco

Early departure

Hike to Warmisaya Pass and Rainbow Mountain

  • Duration: 4-5 hours

Arrival at Rainbow Mountain without the crowds

Visit to Red Valley (optional)

Lunch

Return to Cusco (approximately 5:00-6:00 PM)
