The Rainbow Mountain and 7 Lakes in Ausangate Trek features some spectacular views and sights. Trek to the Rainbow Mountain and be amazed by the natural colors of the sandstone mountains. Later trek further to the Red Valley. Camp overnight under the stars. Visit seven colorful lakes, most of green and blue surrounded by glaciers and high mountain peaks. To finish take a soak at the hot springs where you can relax surrounded by snow capped peaks.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Pacchanta – 7 Lagoons – Upis

Very early we passed by your hotel and headed towards Pacchanta, enjoying the sunrise in the Andes.

Breakfast in Pacchanta (4300 m above sea level) with a direct view of the Ausangate snow-capped mountain.

Start of the hike – 7 Lakes of Ausangate

  • Distance: 14 – 16 km
  • Duration: 5 to 6 hours

During the tour:

  • We visited lagoons of different colors.
  • We walked among alpacas and unique landscapes
  • We enjoyed an authentic experience in the mountain range

Lunch on the road

We continued walking for a few more kilometers

Arrival at Upis (~4400 m above sea level), an area known for its hot springs and views of Ausangate.

Night 1 – Upis

Day 2: Upis – Abra Arapa – Anantapata

We woke up early surrounded by nature

Start of the hike towards Abra Arapa

  • Distance: 15 – 16 km
  • Duration: 6 to 7 hours

This day is one of the most impressive:

  • Gradual ascent to Abra Arapa (~4750 m above sea level)
  • Panoramic views of the entire mountain range
  • Landscapes that change to reddish and mineral tones

We continued our journey towards our camp

Arrival at Anantapata (~4730 m above sea level) and privileged view towards the Rainbow Mountain with spectacular sunset

Night 2 – Anantapata

Day 3: Anantapata – Rainbow Mountain – Red Valley – Cusco

Leaving very early (before dawn)

We started the hike towards Rainbow Mountain

  • Distance: 6 – 8 km
  • Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Arriving at Rainbow Mountain at dawn is one of the most special moments of the tour.

Watching the sunrise illuminate the colors of the mountain is a unique experience

Time for photos and enjoying the scenery without crowds

Optional: Red Valley

  • An additional journey to a stunning and little-visited landscape.

Lunch

Descent to the transport point

Return to Cusco (5:00 – 6:00 PM approx.)
